1. It’s the kids, not the costumes that make the night special. We lost Minnie’s ears two weeks ago. (A bow worked even better.)
2. Kids are more interested in experiences than candy. And as long as you, too, are having fun they actually want you to come along.
3. Wear the tennis shoes. Carry the overflowing bucket of sugar. And breathe in the fleeting moments between houses. You get to be the parent who holds the hands that will only grow larger next year.
4. You will survive. This season…and all the ones to come. But save a little candy for yourself. It’ll take the edge off the next impossibly difficult growing pain.
